I purchased the Hill’s Diet N/D formula (specific for dogs with cancer) for our dog through our vet when he had lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). I had to ask my doctor about it because she normally didn’t prescribe it and had actually only used it once in the past. The vet said the dog would have a bit of a time eating and digesting it. The consistency is a bit rough and hard to get down, but our dog seemed to like it because it is wet food and he was used to dry food.
I had asked her for it because studies had shown the ingredients used in conjuction with chemotherapy extended the life of dogs with lymphoma. However, the study was only done when used in conjunction with chemotherapy. In our dog the lymphoma was too advanced and we didn’t want to pursue chemotherapy on our older dog. Our dog got sick 3 weeks later and we had to put him to sleep. I don’t think the dog food helped much at all in extending his life.
Honestly, if you look at the ingredients its really not that great for the cost and trouble of getting it and its even got grains in it. You’d be better off buying all organic meat based dog foods or creating your own dog food, if your dog is sick with cancer or other diseases, instead of buying the Hill’s diet prescription brand.
